Vitamin D Rapid Test – Product code: SC-0791-25
Rapid test for the semi-quantitative detection of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in human whole blood. For professional in vitro diagnostic use only. The Vitamin D Rapid Test Cassette is an immunochromatographic rapid test for the semiquantitative detection of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25 (OH) D) in human fingertip whole blood, whole blood at a cut-off concentration of 30 ± 4 ng/mL. This test provides a preliminary diagnostic test result and can be used to screen for vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D refers to a group of fat-soluble secosteroids responsible for increasing intestinal absorption of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate and zinc . In humans, the most important compounds of this group are vitamin D3 and vitamin D2. Vitamin D3 is naturally produced in human skin through exposure to ultraviolet light, and Vitamin D2 is mainly obtained from foods. Vitamin D is transported to the liver where it is metabolized into 25-hydroxyvitamin D. In medicine, a 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood test is used to determine the concentration of vitamin D in the body. The blood concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (including D2 and D3) is considered the best indicator of vitamin D status. Vitamin D deficiency is now recognized as a global epidemic. Virtually every cell in our body has vitamin D receptors, which means they all require a “sufficient” level of vitamin D for proper functioning. The health risks associated with vitamin D deficiency are much more serious than previously thought. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to various serious diseases: osteoporosis, osteomalacia, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy complications, diabetes, depression, stroke, autoimmune diseases, influenza, various cancers, infectious diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity and finally to a higher mortality rate etc. Therefore, the detection of Vitamin D (25-OH) level is now considered a “Medically Necessary Screening Test” and maintains sufficient levels not only to improve bone health, but also to improve overall health and well-being. The Vitamin D test is an immunoassay based on the principle of competitive binding. During the test, the mixture migrates upward on the membrane chromatographically by capillary action. The membrane is pre-coated with 25 (OH) D antigens on the test line of the strip. During testing, 25 (OH) D present in the sample will compete with 25 (OH) D on the test line for limited amount of anti-OH Vitamin D 25 antibodies in the conjugate. The higher the concentration of 25 (OH) D in the sample, the lighter the T line appears. The result will be read according to the color card supplied with the kit. To serve as a procedural control, a colored line will always appear in the control line region, indicating that the correct volume of sample has been added and that membrane elimination has occurred.
