Screen Test Lyme IgG/IgM is a lateral flow immunochromatographic test for the qualitative detection of anti-Borrelia IgG and IgM antibodies in human whole blood, serum or plasma samples. Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Borrelia sp. which is spread by ticks. The most common sign of infection is an expanding red area on the skin, known as erythema migrans, that begins at the site of the tick bite about a week after it occurs. The rash is typically neither itchy nor painful. About 25 to 50 percent of infected people do not develop a rash. Other early symptoms may include fever, headache and feeling tired. If left untreated, symptoms may include loss of ability to move one or both sides of the face, joint pain, severe headache with neck stiffness, or heart palpitations, among others. Months or years later, repeated episodes of joint pain and swelling may occur. Occasionally, people develop shooting or tingling pain in their arms and legs. Despite adequate treatment, about 10 to 20 percent of people develop joint pain, memory problems and feel tired for at least six months. Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks of the Ixodes genus. Usually, the tick must remain attached for 36 to 48 hours before the bacteria can spread. The diagnosis is based on a combination of symptoms, history of exposure to ticks, and possibly testing for specific antibodies in the blood. Blood tests are often negative in the early stages of the disease. Testing individual ticks is generally not useful.
