The Quick Test for Synthetic Marijuana (K2) is a chromatographic rapid immunoassay for the detection of the synthetic Marijuana metabolite in human saliva. The synthetic marijuana identified by the test includes, but is not limited to, the metabolites of JWH -018 and JWH-073. The K2-S rapid test (using saliva) is an immunoassay based on the principle of competitive binding. Drugs that may be present in the oral fluid sample compete against the drug conjugate for binding sites on the antibody. During the test, a sample of Oral Fluid migrates upwards by capillary action. The Synthetic Marijuana metabolite, if present in the Oral Fluid sample below 25 ng/mL, will not saturate the binding sites of the antibody coated particles on the test equipment. The antibody coated particles will then be captured by the immobilized synthetic marijuana conjugate and a visible colored line will appear in the test area. The colored line in the test area will not form if the Synthetic Marijuana metabolite level exceeds 25 ng/mL because it will saturate all binding sites of the Synthetic Marijuana antibodies. A drug positive oral fluid sample will not produce a colored line in the test area, while a drug negative oral fluid sample or a sample with a drug concentration below the cut-off level will generate a colored line in the test area . As a procedural control, a colored line will always appear in the control zone to indicate that the correct volume of sample has been used and that the membrane has been soaked.
